On Sunday 13th September, members of the Sword Apak team (Tony Allen, James Powell, Jeremy Tiley and Mike Reece) ran the Bristol Half Marathon to raise funds in support of the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CDLF), the charity that has recently supported Sword Apak employee Chris Tobey and his family.
Chris’ son needed a liver transplant at birth. Unfortunately, his body started to reject the liver some 14 years later in 2014.
Chris took the amazing decision to become a ‘live donor’ and donated part of his liver to his son in May 2015. Following some very dark weeks, the live donor transplant was deemed not to be successful and a further transplant was undertaken in July. The second transplant has been a success and Chris’ son has recovered incredibly quickly and even started back to school!
CLDF provided vital support to Chris and his family through this difficult period, as they do for many other such families. They also undertake medical research into all aspects of childhood liver disease.
This has been followed up by the efforts of one of Sword Apak’s suppliers and their family running the Glasgow Half Marathon in early October. All of the runners finished their events successfully. Sword Apak would like to thank everyone who has donated to this fantastic cause and helped raise almost £2000 for the CLDF. Everyone’s generosity has been incredible and your donations will go directly to help support this amazing charity to do more fantastic work to help others. Sword Apak are also proud to announce that in the business challenge category, Sword Apak came 7th (out of 29), and as a business challenge individual, James Powell came 10th.
It is still not too late to donate to the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation, you can do so via the JustGiving page.
