“Looking back at over more than twenty years with Sword Apak, I am especially pleased with how far we have come”
My first job in IT was as a Computer Operator at ICL where I worked for two years. In 1993 I joined Apak as a Trainee Computer Operator, becoming part of a new team that effectively started Application Service Provision (ASP). Within four years I was Operations Analyst. By 2001, I became Operations Manager for a much expanded ASP team and when Sword acquired Apak in 2007 my role expanded further to IT & Operations Manager. My current role is Operations Director, where I am responsible for managing the ASP service and the Operations and Technical Services teams.
Looking back at more than twenty years with Sword Apak, I am especially pleased with how far we have come. When I first joined we were just introducing ASP, we had two clients, and a lot of ideas and dreams. Now with more than 25 ASP clients in over 14 countries I am proud of our achievements. We have delivered major improvements in technology, from OpenVMS to Linux and, more recently, with VMware. We have also expanded our Data Centre and significantly improved business continuity, culminating in our roll out of VMware clusters in New Jersey, Phoenix, Frankfurt and two sites in Bristol over 2012/2013.
Our other major focus is IT security. Clients have placed this need higher and higher on their list of priorities and we have addressed this, attaining ISO 27001 and ISO 9001. We also passed the BACS Approved Bureaux audits, rating ‘Excellent’ in all categories, and have been praised by prestigious clients for our controls and organisation.
