Apak was founded in 1979 by Tony Papadopoullos, with a single computer at his kitchen table. Previously Tony had worked for GEAC Computers, and from here combined his experience in software and IT with his entrepreneurial spirit to start his own company. Tony’s right hand man was Alan Keep, and together they (and their names) formed APAK (Adonis Papadopoullos and Alan Keep).

After forming long-standing relationships with those he worked with at GEAC, Tony accumulated an impressive staff base as they joined him on his Apak venture. From here the business continued to grow and develop for another 35 years- and counting.

In 1988 Apak won a bid to in-source Barclays Mercantile Highland Finance’s IT department. We took on the operational responsibilities and a lot of the staff of this department and although this contract has now lapsed some of the staff members are still with us today. This was a huge milestone for Apak as we acquired many incredible staff along with a substantial, 5 year contract.

As we continued to grow we acquired other companies, such as banking software provider BEAM in 1998 and address management company LM Software in 1999. We also branched out in product development, introducing our state-of-the-art core banking system, Aurius, in 2006.

In 2007, we became Sword Apak after being acquired by Sword Group, a top 100 software company and a leader in IT services, business software and communications technologies. This gave Sword Apak access to a global infrastructure of offices and hosting facilities in 37 countries.

Sword Apak has always stayed geographically close to where it was founded, with our head office remaining in Bristol (UK). However, due to our rising business growth we have also spread across different geographies. We began our international expansion into Europe in the mid-nineties. From here we continued to grow, launching into North America in 2009. In 2014, Sword Apak can boast a global presence, with almost 100 clients worldwide.

Sword Apak’s market leading Wholesale Finance Floorplanning System (WFS) is deployed by major financial institutions globally, supporting 10’s of thousands of dealers in multiple countries. WFS delivers seamless finance and commercial loan administration across multiple geographies. The system is highly configurable, allowing our clients to shape it around their business.

Sword Apak is an established provider of core banking solutions for the retail and commercial banking sectors. Developed on Microsoft .NET for fast implementation and deployment, our Aurius core banking solution is agile and cost–effective.

Our Address Management system is an industry leader in address validation and postal discount software. We design and build the optimum solution for clients to cleanse their customer database and achieve the best postal discounts on their mailing.
